Early on in my career as a photographer, I stumbled across an idea.
I decided to embark on a mission of discovery. With my bags packed and my passport in hand, it was clear it was time for me to hit the road, and travel to new places and meet new people.
Go out on my own and see the world, camera in hand, of course.
A voice from across the room said to me “do something different with your photos. Say something special with your work..”
Just then I looked down and saw a dictionary lying in front of me on a coffee table.
I looked up and asked ”what’s with the dictionary?”
Then I heard...“Everyday I will open the dictionary at a random page and select a word to add to my vocabulary, make myself smarter, learn, grow...expand my mind by educating myself one word at a time.”
As I made my way to the airport, I was inspired to the point where I stopped and immediately wrote down...WE ARE WORDS.
Spanning 30 years of work, from Hong Kong to Moscow, Berlin to Bangkok, LA to NYC and more, I have assembled a collection of photos featuring the many subjects that I encountered.
I handed them to a piece of paper, and a sharpie and asked that they write down a word, any word that they wish to share with the world.
Here is what happened...
COMING SOON - My goal is to print a coffee table book and offer this for sale with hopes of inspiring and educating the masses on the true meaning and definition of the words we use to communicate with one another. I will ask that others join in by sharing their word with the world via social media. The better we can communicate and understand each other, the better a world we form.
